Markdown is a lightweight formatting language popular for writing code READMEs, blog posts, and notes — you type simple symbols and they convert instantly into nicely formatted HTML. This Markdown to HTML converter shows a live preview every time you type, plus ready-to-copy HTML code. It supports the most commonly used syntax: headings, bold, italic, code blocks, links, ordered and unordered lists, blockquotes, and horizontal rules. It's built from scratch with no external library, and it always escapes HTML characters before converting to guard against malicious code sneaking in through the text. Everything runs in your browser — nothing is sent to a server.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What Markdown syntax does this tool support?
It supports the most commonly used basic syntax: headings (# through ######), bold (**text**), italic (*text*), inline code (`code`), code blocks (```), links ([text](url)), ordered and unordered lists, blockquotes (>), and horizontal rules (---). It does not yet cover the full CommonMark spec, such as tables or embedded images.
Is the output safe from XSS if I paste it into my own site?
This tool always escapes special HTML characters in the input before converting, which provides some protection against malicious script injection through Markdown content. Still, if you display the resulting HTML on your own site, you should always separately vet the source of the original content for safety.
Does it support tables?
Not yet — it doesn't support full CommonMark tables or embedded images. It covers the most commonly used basic syntax only: headings, bold/italic, lists, code blocks, links, and blockquotes. If you need a table, write it as raw HTML <table> markup instead.
Does the preview match GitHub's Markdown rendering exactly?
It's close for basic syntax, but it doesn't use the same parser as GitHub (GitHub Flavored Markdown adds extensions like tables, task lists, and emoji). Use this as a rough structural preview, then double-check the real rendering on GitHub before publishing.
Is the Markdown I type sent to a server?
No data ever leaves your device. All Markdown-to-HTML conversion runs entirely in your browser.
